Vineet R. Kamat, Ph.D.

Researchers in the Laboratory for Interactive Visualization in Engineering (LIVE) have made outstanding contributions to the advancement of construction engineering and management through research and development of new technology, principles, and practices. The group's accomplishments include pioneering research in Construction Automation and Robotics, where their work has developed new methods for construction robots to overcome workspace uncertainties and human-robot interaction barriers to make adaptive co-robotized construction work possible. Research at LIVE has also resulted in fundamental contributions in the areas of Real-Time Construction Monitoring, Context-Aware Infrastructure Visualization, construction visualization in Georeferenced Augmented Reality, and Visual Simulation of Construction Processes. 

Recent research at the LIVE has specifically focused on exploring Automation and Robotics to improve the human experience in the built environment (e.g., mobility, comfort), to improve the sustainability of engineering processes (e.g., construction, operation), and to reduce ability-based inequalities in physically-demanding work (e.g., on-site construction) and life activities (e.g., urban mobility). LIVE researchers have strong collaborations with the SICIS and the FabLab, and are affiliated with the Graham Sustainability Institute,  the MICDE, the MIDAS, the C4E,  and Michigan Robotics. LIVE discoveries have earned five US patents, are described in over 220 peer-reviewed publications, and are available as licensable technologies from U-M Innovation Partnerships.
